Our silk quilt with a cotton cover is the only one in Australia that allows you to remove the cover and wash it separately from the silk filling.

Cotton is an excellent fabric for a quilt cover, which absorbs very little moisture during sleep, making it a perfect choice for people with dry or normal skin.

However, if you have sensitive skin or allergies, a cotton cover can cause itchy, cracked, and irritated skin. So, especially for people with sensitivities, we designed our silk quilts with a TENCEL cover.

Care Instructions

For the quilts with TENCEL covers, we recommend using a gentle pH-neutral liquid detergent and cold water to prevent damage to the silk fibres.

For the quilts with cotton covers: the cover should be removed and washed separately as standard cotton bed linen. We don't recommend washing the silk filling. Dry clean (no trichloroethylene!) it instead.

Selecting the Right Weight/Warmth

The choice between an All Season and a Summer silk quilt depends on your personal comfort preferences, sleeping habits and the climate in your area.

  • Summer / 150GSM

The lightest silk quilt in Australia, our Summer quilt will protect you from the heat if you live in an area with high temperatures and keep you cool during hot summer months elsewhere.

If you are a hot sleeper struggling with night sweats and overheating, these quilts are your best option.

  • All Season / 300GSM

Our All Season quilts are thicker, slightly heavier and warmer than Summer quilts, making them suitable for both - cool and hot weather.

  • Silk Quilts for Hot Sleepers

    Quilts with a TENCEL Cover

Well-known for its silky soft feel and moisture-wicking qualities, TENCEL is ten times more resistant to bacterial growth (thanks to its antibacterial properties), making our silk quilts with a TENCEL cover an ideal option for people with allergies or sensitive skin.

Compared to cotton, fewer chemicals are used in TENCEL production, making it more environmentally friendly.

We only use genuine TENCEL, manufactured by Lenzing (Austria), its inventor.

  • Silk Quilt with a Removable Cover

    Quilts with a Cotton Cover

Cotton absorbs less moisture than TENCEL, making these quilts a better choice for people with dry or normal skin.

The cotton cover has a hidden zipper closure and can be easily removed and washed and dried separately from the silk filling, making it easy to care for.

The 400 thread count cotton we use is noticeably thinner and smoother than the standard cotton used in linen and, most importantly, doesn't produce this annoying rustling noise during sleep.

  • Silk Bed Linen is Naturally Hypoallergenic

    Naturally Hypoallergenic

Silk quilt is an excellent option if you suffer from allergies or skin issues - it's very comforting and soothing on your skin.

  • Silk is Antibacterial & Anti-fungal

    Antibacterial & Antifungal

Silk is a material that germs struggle to cling to or grow on, and is resistant to dust mites, mould and bacteria.

  • Temperature Regulating

Silk keeps you comfortably cool in summer and warm in winter, making it possible to get a great night's rest all year round.

  • Lightweight & Breathable

Silk is made from thin natural strands, allowing for better air circulation than cotton, wool, down and synthetic materials.

Our attention to detail is second to none - from the intricate quilting and piping to the beautiful, elegant packaging, reflecting our commitment to excellent craftsmanship.

What Our Customers Say About Our Silk Doonas

Among numerous feedbacks from our happy customers, we thought this one from Julie, who purchased our Winter Silk Quilt Bundle, worth being featured:

"I did sway back and forth with the idea of a silk quilt, wondering if these quilts would live up to the hype or be another epic Internet failure.

Firstly, I would like to state that we live in the coldest climate in Australia (Canberra), and our house temperature can drop to 16 degrees Celsius at night. This year has been particularly fierce, so I thought this would be a good test of the quilts' properties.

We both love the weight of the quilt, which gives us a sense of comfort. The cotton cover is luxuriously soft and is not noisy when turning over. Overall, we are greatly amazed that the silk quilt is more than meeting our expectations and would not hesitate to recommend it."

Who Is a Silk Quilt Best For?

Upgrading to a silk quilt isn't just about adding luxury - for people who struggle with night sweats or allergies, or partners with different body temperatures, a Mulberry silk quilt could make all the difference.

People with Fluctuating Body Temperatures

Silk quilts work like a natural thermostat. They help regulate body temperature by adapting to the environment - so you stay comfortably warm in winter and cool in summer without waking up from overheating or chills.

Hot Sleepers and Women Experiencing Menopause

Night sweats and hot flashes can disrupt even the best sleep routines. A silk doona offers excellent moisture control and breathability, helping adjust your temperature and keeping you cool and dry throughout the night.

People with Allergies or Sensitive Skin

Silk is naturally hypoallergenic and resistant to dust mites, mould, and common allergens. A silk quilt creates a cleaner, healthier sleep environment - especially beneficial for people prone to breakouts, skin irritation, or sensitivities to synthetic or heavy materials.

Couples with Different Sleep Preferences

Sharing a bed doesn't have to mean compromising on comfort. If one of you sleeps hot and the other runs cold, a silk quilt helps bridge the gap. Its natural temperature-regulating properties create a more balanced, restful sleep for both partners — fewer disturbances, better moods, and even more romance.

Summer Silk Quilt

Introducing The Lightest Silk Quilt in Australia

Designed in 2023 by Silky U specifically for hot sleepers, our summer quilts with a TENCEL cover are the lightest silk quilts on the Australian market - a Queen-size quilt weighs less than 2 kg.

Based on the feedback we receive from our customers, these quilts are also the ideal choice for women going through menopausal or post-menopausal transition.

They reduce night sweats and overheating (and ease hot flashes), so you sleep peacefully without feeling too hot, no matter the temperature.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is the difference between a quilt, a doona and a duvet?

Technically, "quilt", "duvet", and "doona" are different terms that describe the same bedding item.

"Quilt" and "doona" are most commonly used in Australia, while "duvet" is a European term. In The United States, people often refer to "quilts" as "comforters".

2. Are silk quilts any good?

Yes, silk quilts are an excellent bedding choice due to their hypoallergenic properties, lightweight, and softness.

They also provide superior temperature regulation, keeping you cool in summer and warm in winter.

3. What is the best silk for a quilt?

Mulberry silk is considered the best for a quilt due to its high quality and durability.

Produced by silkworms fed exclusively on mulberry leaves, Mulberry silk is known for its softness, strength, and natural sheen.

4. Are Mulberry silk quilts worth it?

Absolutely! Mulberry silk quilts are worth the investment due to their high quality, hypoallergenic properties, and temperature regulation.

They are also long-lasting and provide excellent comfort and softness.

5. Can you wash a silk quilt?

Yes, you can wash silk quilts.

It is also essential to follow our silk bedding care instructions.

6. How often should you wash a silk doona?

We recommend washing a silk doona every 6-12 months, depending on the usage and other factors, such as humidity and dust.

7. Do you put a quilt cover on a silk quilt?

Yes, we recommend using a quilt cover on a silk quilt to protect it from dirt and dust and to provide an extra layer of warmth and comfort.

9. What is the best way to store a silk quilt?

The best way to store a silk quilt is to fold it neatly and keep it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture.

10. Can the silk filling inside the quilt cover move about?

No, it can not.

The cover has 8 loops (4 in the corners and 4 in the middle of each side), and the silk filling has 8 strings tied with the cover's loops, so it's fixed firmly within the cover.

11. What is GSM?

GSM stands for "grams per square meter" and is a measurement of the weight and density of the silk filling in a quilt.

For silk quilts, GSM indicates how much silk is used per square meter, which can affect the warmth and feel of the quilt.

A higher GSM typically means a thicker and warmer quilt, while a lower GSM is lighter and more suitable for warmer climates or summer use.
