The Price of Silk Bedding: Is it Worth the Splurge?

Why Silk Bedding is Expensive

Silk quilts and silk bed sheets have always had a certain allure, but they often come attached with a higher price tag that may leave you wondering why.

In this blog post, we'll dive into the reasons behind the cost of silk bedding, its undeniable value, and why cheaper alternatives might not be the smartest choice.

Why Silk Bedding is Expensive

Let's break it down and see why silk bedding is worth the investment:

Labour of Love

Producing silk is a labour-intensive process. From raising silkworms to carefully extracting and weaving the fibres, every step requires skilled craftsmanship and a lot of time and effort. The dedication put into manufacturing silk bedding contributes to its higher cost.

Superior Comfort and Quality

Silk offers a luxurious experience like no other bedding material. It's incredibly soft, lightweight, and has excellent moisture-wicking properties.

Health & Well-Being Benefits

Silk is hypoallergenic, making it perfect for sensitive skin or allergy sufferers. The exceptional quality and unique properties of silk make it a sought-after material for doonas and bed linen.

Longevity and Durability

Buying silk bedding means investing in durability. High quality silk can withstand the test of time without losing its lustre or strength. It's a wise choice that ensures that, with proper care, your bedding remains comfortable and luxurious for years to come.

Quality and Grade

It's important to note that not all silk is created equal. Different quality levels and grades of silk contribute to the varying price ranges of silk bedding. The higher grade (i.e. better quality) silk bedding often has a higher price tag.

All Silky U products are made from 6A Grade Mulberry silk, considered the highest and finest quality.

Not Cheap, But Not That Expensive

Believe it or not, there are even more expensive alternatives to silk bedding.

For example, buying a Queen size goose down quilt (with a 300TC cotton cover) at David Jones will cost you $1,799. For our silk quilt with a removable 400TC cotton cover (higher quality), you only pay $529. This is more than 3 times cheaper!

And if you buy a 4-piece bed sheet set comparable to ours - quilt cover, fitted sheet and 2 pillowcases - you will have to pay over $1,900. This is almost double our price of $1,099.

Why Cheap Bedding Isn't a Smart Choice

Don't be tempted by cheap alternatives! Here's why:

Sacrificing Quality

Cheap bedding often relies on synthetic materials or low quality fabrics that lack silk's luxurious feel and durability. These fabrics also can't match the comfort or breathability of silk, compromising your sleep experience.

Skin Sensitivity and Allergies

Some bedding materials can irritate the skin and cause allergies or discomfort. On the other hand, silk is hypoallergenic and gentle on the skin, making it the superior choice for people with allergies and sensitive skin.

Shorter Lifespan

Cheap bedding tends to wear out quickly and lose its colour, shape, or softness after a few washes. It ends up costing more in the long run as you'll have to replace it more frequently. High quality silk bedding will save you money over time due to its longevity.

The Perfect Balance of Luxury and Affordability

Silk bedding may seem like a splurge, but it's a justified investment, given its superior quality, comfort, and durability. So, why not treat yourself to the luxurious experience of silk and indulge in a good night's sleep?
